So I got up at 5 a.m. to go for a run with Frank. Everything was going well as I left the apartment, but it was pitch black and I am running along towards the river walk and I trip over a short wall. Down I fall, hitting my knee (injured previously in my hiking incident) and scraping my elbow. My knee has a huge lump and about 3 square inches of bruise, and my elbow is red and raw and bloody - gross. I am in a lot of pain from the knee - feels like I cracked the kneecap. Obviously I did not because I am walking on it, but it hurts like hell and Vicodin is not touching it! Plus, now that I am OLD I do not heal very quicly. I need to stop hurting myself.
Then, I came home and took a shower (painful, especially on the bloody elbow) and started to dry my hair; and the power went out in the bathroom. Blew a fuse. Day going great so far!
However, been at work for hours and Frank has been a very good dog. I found out that I can apply for a House Counsel reciprocity which means I can do everything I need to do for work, and dont have to take the bar. Perhaps the best part of it is that I am not allowed to give advice to anyone outside my company, and even for my company I cannot litigate in front of anybody. That makes it easier when issues come up that need litigation - I simply cannot do it and will have to hire outside counsel. Works for me! Day IS going great so far!

Hiking is dangerous
Adventure: going for a hike in Camels Back park
Misadventure - typing my own shoelaces together in the middle of my hike
So, I was walking along, enjoying the sun and the views and suddenly, my feet were tied together. I was wearing hiking boots that lace in the traditional manner over the foot, but going up the ankle there are hooks for the laces. I simply laced them up to the hooks and tied a bow. The hooks were empty and apparently looking for something to fill them. When I stepped, one of the loops from the lace of my right foot, got caught in the hook on my left foot, and effectively tied my laces together. I kept trying to step to catch myself and could not - although I managed to make many :seizure like" attempts at doing so.. I finally fell down, scraping my hands, elbow and taking a large chunk out of my knee. Luckily for me, I am enough of a klutz that I anticipated just such an event. I brought two bandaids and some neosporin in my backpack. By the time I got the neosporin on my knee, blood was running down my leg. Put the bandaids on and kept walking. Looked down about half an hour later and the bandaids were falling off, blood was again running down my leg, and I was out of options. I wiped the blood off onto my tanktop (black, luckily; gross regardless) and shoved some dust into the wound to soak up the blood. I was not ready to turn around so we kept hiking for another hour. Overall it was a lot of fun, but today I am sporting a pretty nasty looking gash on my knee, and a story that makes me sound stupid no matter how I explain it!

Boise is dangerous
OK, so Thursday, Frank came to work with me. I looked up from my computer and saw him playing with something on the floor. It was a GIANT black beetle (I learned later it was called a Stink Bug). I am not kidding that it was about 2 inches long. My puppy stepped on it and I freaked out! I was pretty sure it was going to take a bite out of Frank and suck out his insides through its giant evil fangs of death! Actually it just walked away but it was a close call. Then I made one of the production guys come and take it out. So scary!
Then, Friday night I was leaving the apartment to take out some garbage (big Friday night for me) and there was a spider the size of my big toe that was wasblocking me from the front door. I thought about stepping around it and taking my chances, but then he raised up his front legs and hissed at me - there is some serious evil insectiness in Boise!
Today was fun - Frank and I went for a 3 hour hike. It was beautiful and we were done by 11:00 so never got too hot. Frank has been sleeping ever since. Once he wakes up we are going to go swimming. I have been finishing unpacking my bedroom and bathroom. That leaves the kitchen and living room to finish.
Thinking about going out tonight, but am more interested in getting finished with unpacking my stuff. Maybe a nice bottle of wine while I work.

Parking is dangerous
So it is Friday morning, and I arrived in Boise almost one week ago. The move started out a bit rough. Saturday morning I went out to my car to start loading it for the move from Portland to Boise, and I saw that sometime in the night, someone had smashed into the side of my car. Fortunately for me I have amazing parents and my dad took my car to be repaired and I drove his car to Boise. My mom also made the drive with me and we had a great time along the way. The scenery is beautiful. We got into Boise at about 7:30 and finally found my new apartments. I unlocked the door and the first thing we saw was the view out the living room window - a pond/lake. Absolutely beautiful with the sun setting and reflecting on the water. That first night was amazing. No traffic noise at all; the only thing that woke me up was the geese landing on the lake. The next day we headed out to the river which is just across the parking lot from my apartment. We started walking on the beautiful paved trail along the river and my puppy kept jumping in the water. Guess he is a water dog. We saw a fox and Frank (puppy) and Fox had a stare down. My trailer of meagre furnishings did not arrive until Tuesday afternoon. My mom and I unloaded everything - yes, we are awesome. Then I had to take a quick shower and head out to a fundraiser for Boise Governor Butch Otter (a REPUBLICAN). Yes, it was for work or there is no way I would have gone! My mom finally left Wednesday morning and I was sorry to see her go. She was fun to hang out with and she was a huge help. Frank went to daycare on Wednesday and then to work with me on Thursday. He did very well. He is at daycare today and I hope he is exhausted when I pick him up! He is expensive and time consuming but I love him and we are having a great time. Plus it is very good for me to have someone else to care about besides myself. Have only been able to run a couple of short (2 and 4 mile) runs since getting here, but am hoping to finish unpacking this weekend and leave more time for a workout.
I know I am going to miss my friends and family, but I have not yet. So far I love Boise - there have been several amazing storms but I am really looking forward to the hot weather this weekend.
Tonight after work I might swim at the pool, pick up Frank, and then have a dinner of wine and popcorn. Perfect!
